About me
Connor Venables joined the Canadian Armed Forces right out of high school as a primary reservist. He then transferred into the regular forces and trained as an infantry officer, achieving a BA in history from the University of Victoria. After completing his training in 2009, he was posted to the 1st Battalion of the Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry (PPCLI) in Edmonton, while it was deploying to Afghanistan on Task Force 3-09.
Captain Venables held many diverse roles in Canada and Holland before deploying to Afghanistan in June, 2013. Tasked to Camp Eggers in downtown Kabul, he was responsible for managing crises, running vehicle convoys and conducting foot patrols. At the peak of his tour, Captain Venables was promoted to acting chief of operations of NATO’s training mission’s joint operations centre. These roles provided him a unique insight into realities on the ground and the realities of high-level geopolitics.
After retiring from the forces in 2014, Connor completed his education degree at the University of Calgary and has been teaching in Rocky View Schools ever since. He now speaks annually to different schools about his service.
