About me
Noreen is a first generation Canadian and her parents are from East Africa, Kenya. She was born and raised in Edmonton. She has been teaching for 22 years and obtained her Undergrad from the University of Alberta in Elementary Education and holds a Masters degree in Educational Studies from the University of Alberta. She was a semi- finalist for the Excellence in Teaching Awards Program for the province of Alberta. Over the last two decades she has studied and practiced Taewando and competed in local Edmonton tournaments, obtaining 6 medals. Her martial arts training also includes American style boxing and kickboxing. She has also traveled to Thailand and trained in Muay Thai kickboxing. As a Muslim women, having trained and faught in martial arts, she was also showcased in a calendar project called the Muslim Women of Edmonton. Noreen has been at the Calgary Islamic school - Omar bin Al-Khattab campus since 2010, teaching kindergarten, grade 9 homeroom, Learning Support, acting Principal, and now is one of two vice principals at the school.
