During my first year as a generalist for the new Alberta PoS, I designed a card game for my classroom to help bridge the concepts of algebra, and in the process also used it as a in-class currency.
After playing with it for several months, I found students were activity engaged with the math, as well as how they could participate to further develop their progress in the game.
With this success, I would like to introduce to you what I learned that made the game effective, what hurdles and difficulties I found in my first year using it, and a couple of blank templates that you (or your students) can use to create a similar game in the coming years of your own career.
